About the role:
We’re looking for a motivated and customer-focused Sales Assistant to join our busy branch team. You’ll be on the front line dealing with our customers that come into our branch. As part of the branch team, you will play a vital role in our continued success, providing a first-class service.
The role involves serving customers at the trade counter and processing sales orders.

Our success is built on strong relationships with our customers, so it’s essential that you’re friendly, approachable, and dedicated to delivering the highest standards of service. You’ll quickly get to know our customers by name and play a key role in making their experience with AJW a great one.
Here’s what the role involves:
• You’ll be based on the trade counter, acting as the first point of contact for all customers.
• Processing customer orders, preparing quotes, and ensuring all enquiries are handled efficiently, whether in person, by phone, or by email.
• Booking in supplier deliveries and keeping the sales area clean, organised, and welcoming.
• Managing stock on the shop floor, ensuring products are displayed correctly and replenished as needed.
• Following up on quotations within set timeframes to maximise opportunities and recording any lost quotes with reasons provided to your Branch Manager.
• Providing general administrative support to the Branch Manager, including filing sales records and maintaining accurate documentation.
• Coordinating samples, brochures, and product information to support customer enquiries and help drive sales.
Experience & Key Attributes:
Experience in the roofing industry is preferred but not essential, as full training will be provided. The ideal applicant will be the first point of contact for customers visiting the trade counter and must have a strong focus on customer service. They’ll be a team player but also capable of working on their own initiative, with excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Attention to detail is key due to the nature of the business, and the successful candidate will be eager to learn and develop their skills. They should be computer-literate and confident in learning new systems. The ideal candidate will need to hit the ground running and demonstrate the key attributes of becoming a valued member of our Sawston team.
