AJW Bury St Edmunds
Joe, introduce yourself…
I was born in Norwich, left the city at 18 to live in the sticks, a country-boy at heart! Currently living in the Waveney Valley just outside Beccles, in Norfolk.
I live with my partner of 13 years, Hayley. Thankfully we established early in the relationship that neither of us wants kids, so the house is nice & quiet!
What do you love?
I spend most of my spare time in the woods around RSPB Minsmere, either hiking or shooting at my woodland archery club. I use only traditional bows (mostly an English Longbow and a Hungarian Horsebow) with my own hand-made traditional arrows to suit.
Any time I’m not walking or shooting arrows I’ll be shooting rifles and pistols at my local target club… or sat at home eating chocolate biscuits (bourbons!)
What do you hate?
Generally – social media!
Do you have any nicknames?
It’s not common knowledge, but my girlfriend calls me Button – When we first met I had a pile of buttons waiting to be sewn back on my trousers… Later a misread Christmas label lead to a brief period of me being named “Butah”.
Do you have any pets?
Currently, we share our home with a Chillean Rose tarantula, a Purple Claw hermit crab, 2 Malayan Jungle Nymphs & 3 Giant Millipedes.
If you could learn to do anything, what would it be?
I’ve always been envious of military pilots (fighter jets and attack helicopters in particular). If I could plug into the Matrix I’d be one of them!
What is your favourite country that you have been to visit?
I spent a month back-packing in southern Africa as a teenager; South Africa, Lesotho, Swaziland. Best trip of my life…but I was lucky to make it out alive! Between the warthogs, snakes, crocs…
