What do our team think…

“I started working for AJW in August 2011

My first role was to help set up a Domestic Roofing Division within the existing cladding and sheeting business.

It was a tough job but with Alan, Gareth and Andrew’s support, we made it work and over the last few years, we have grown immeasurably.

We started with one truck, one warehouse and a small patch of land. Now we have three warehouses, a large yard, 3 trucks and our staff level has tripled to enable us to cope with the new sales.

It has been hard work but very worth it!

In 2015, I became the Branch Manager. I have been given the opportunity to set up a new department/business and in order to establish AJW as a tile/slate distributor, I have been involved in all aspects of the business from stock profiling to accounts to transport.

I have had numerous on-site product training days, whenever we introduce new products. We get days out with customers & staff (which are great fun!) and have become part of a much larger team over the years as the business has expanded into new areas.

I thoroughly enjoy working for AJW. I have been more than looked after personally, and in my job, and my opinion is valued and listened too, even though sometimes it is a rubbish one and I am told as much!

We all have a tough job in this business, but it is very rewarding and, for the most part, I have thoroughly enjoyed it and the people I work with, including all the customers.”

Clair BondBranch Manage, AJW Chatteris

“I started working for AJW and joined the accounts team in May 2016. I joined as a purchase ledger clerk to continue in a role which I had 5 years’ experience in.

Since joining the team, I have progressed to Accounts Payable/Accounting Assistant which has allowed me to begin working on management accounts, learn new skills and take on more responsibilities.

Last October, AJW gave me the chance to start studying towards my AAT Level 2 – an opportunity which I have been very grateful for, as this was something I’d always thought I would never do.

I work at the Chatteris depot and am super lucky to work with a great team of people, we’re like one big family and have some brilliant nights out together!

I enjoy working for AJW for many reasons. I am able to help others across the business and get in involved in different areas, each year the company have held a summer party for everyone which is always good fun and gives you a chance to meet the other depots and also this September they are holding a charity fundraising event “Alan’s Challenge” which I am very excited to be taking part in.”

Tiffany TibblesAccounting Assistant, AJW Chatteris

“I started work at AJW Essex on the 2nd Feb 2014 as a class two HGV driver.

In 2015, I had the opportunity to become the company Transport Manager for all the depots in East Anglia.

It was a large challenge – one that I was ready to accept and have enjoyed since I started.

I was also given the opportunity to be involved in the company H&S. As I have had previous experience in a similar role, I took this on board as a new challenge and am committed to ensuring that the companies H&S is always of a high standard.

I really do enjoy working for AJW. The company has expanded, so my roll and commitment to the company has expanded too.

The backing and support from all staff members from the Managing Director all the way down is always there 100%.

I’m a person who likes to work and I look forward to getting up and going to work.”
