AJW’s First Annual Golf Day at Dunston Hall: A Huge Success for Farleigh Hospice
Our annual golf day on Friday, September 20th, at Dunston Hall in Norwich, was a resounding success, and we owe it all to the generosity of our supporters, guests, and organizers. This year, we were honoured to raise funds for Farleigh Hospice, our chosen charity of the year, in memory of Ray, a beloved driver from our Essex depot. Here’s a look back at the incredible day.
The Day Begins
Under bright, sunny skies, our guests arrived early, full of energy and excitement. As everyone enjoyed bacon baps and coffee, many eagerly joined in on the pre-game activities, like purchasing raffle tickets and testing their skills with our putting game. The event officially kicked off at 10:00 a.m. with a heartfelt talk from Stewart Miles, reminding everyone of the deeper purpose behind this year’s event: honouring Ray’s memory and supporting the incredible work of Farleigh Hospice.
A Day on the Course
By 10:30 a.m., golfers hit the course, where they were well-cared-for by our amazing team. A big thank you to Clair Bond, Jacqui from Farleigh Hospice, Lorna from SIKA, and Diana, the wife of our Transport Manager, for ensuring our drinks buggies were running all day.
With high spirits, golfers played through the afternoon, finishing around 3 p.m. Many gathered at the Bunkers Bar to enjoy the sunshine, the view, and some well-earned relaxation before the evening festivities began.
A special thank you to Sarah for managing raffle ticket sales, and to everyone who donated prizes. The raffle was another big success, thanks to the support from all involved.
Evening Festivities and Recognitions
The evening kicked off with a warm welcome from Tom Woods, our Managing Director, who also gave special thanks to Charlotte Woods, our Marketing Director, for single-handedly organizing the entire event. The evening was packed with fun between courses, starting with a memorable moment: our Transport Manager, Don, had dyed his hair blue in Ray’s honour. In a fundraising twist, Don’s blue hair was shaved off after a £500 donation from Dave at Seven Asset, which brought plenty of laughs (and a few clipper issues).
We also played our yearly game of ‘Heads and Tails’, where the winner, Ben from Turner Roofing Supplies, was incredibly generous and donated the money he WON straight back to our charity pot.
Award Ceremony Highlights
We have several games that the golfers are automatically entered into during golf. We also added ‘Beat the Pro’ to the day this year. We had an impressive 18 people win; everyone went into a draw, and the winner was chosen via an online spin. The winners are all presented with their prizes during the evening event.

The Auction and Evening Entertainment
Jezo led our annual auction with his usual flair, helping us raise an impressive £5,375 from 31 lots. Thank you to everyone who donated items and placed bids. After the auction, our evening entertainment took centre stage, with Shaun from Dakea treating us to live music and even inspiring a karaoke rendition of an Oasis classic from Rob Dennis, Tom Woods, and Steve from DMD, much to the delight of the crowd.
Adding even more excitement, we had a blackjack and roulette table courtesy of a local casino company, which raised an additional £1,000 for Farleigh Hospice.

Final Thank You
We are blown away by the generosity and support from everyone who contributed to making this day unforgettable. From our sponsors to our participants, raffle donors, and volunteers, this golf day was a true community effort. Together, we raised a tremendous amount to support Farleigh Hospice, and we couldn’t be more grateful.
We’re already planning next year’s event, so if you’d like to join us, please reach out to Charlotte for more information.
