Filon Roofing and Cladding Sheet Products

Filon Products is a long established and leading manufacturer of GRP products for the construction industry that offers a large range of profiled sheeting and fabricated products for roofing and cladding applications, for both new build and refurbishment projects.

The recommended Filon product for your project can depend upon regulatory, practical, and aesthetic requirements. Options are available throughout the entire Filon product range to provide the required durability, non-fragility, fire performance, and where appropriate, thermal properties, for compliance with Building Regulations and HSE Safety Regulations. Examples follow.

Single skin translucent or colour tinted rooflights and roof sheeting

Available in a range of profiles to match profiled asbestos cement, fibre cement and metal sheeting.

  • Agricultural buildings for livestock.
  • Roofs or walls of buildings on which single skin sheeting is allowed under Building Regulations.
  • Loading bays and other large canopies.
  • Carports.
  • Covered walkways.
  • Replacement rooflights or wall-lights that comply with current non-fragility recommendations where appropriate, and where Building Regulations allow. Examples include replacement Northlights or single skin rooflights on an unheated storage building.

Site assembled rooflights

Comprised of separate profiled liners, outer sheets and insulating core sheets to match built up profiled metal and fibre cement roofing systems.

  • New build factory, warehouse and commercial building roofs.
  • Replacement rooflights that may include new liner and outer sheets.
  • Replacement rooflights that may require just new outer sheets.
  • Replacement rooflights that may include liner and outer sheets or existing outer sheets only and new rooflights as part of an over-roof system.

Note that insulating core panels may be required with all the above examples for compliance with Building regulations

Factory Assembled Insulating Rooflights (FAIRs)

Comprised of profiled outer sheets that are bonded to a box liner that is sealed at the ends, to match modern composite panel systems and older rooflight systems.

  • New build factory, warehouse and commercial building roofs.
  • New build wall-lights.
  • Replacements for old Northlight glazing.
  • Replacements for FAIRs in old, profiled metal, asbestos cement or fibre cement roofs.

Note that insulating core panels may be required with all the above examples for compliance with Building regulations.

Monarch F and Monarch F 1275 barrel vault rooflights

Rooflights comprised of CEDR24E outer sheets and CE18 liners bonded together with internal shaped stiffeners to form barrel vault rooflights for use on flat or low-pitched roofs. They may be used with profiled metal secret fix and standing seam systems, on felted and single ply membrane roofs, and with other flat roofing systems.

  • Double skin for new and replacement rooflights where Building Regulations allow.
  • Double skin for new and replacement rooflights used with a separate liner system.
  • Triple layer with an internal insulation core for new and replacement rooflights

Supasafe, CEDR30 and CEDR24 translucent sheeting

DR-Refurb sheeting is an opaque light grey coloured repair or replacement sheet for defective asbestos cement or fibre cement sheeting. It is lightweight but tough with two layers of glass fibre reinforcement and can be used to sheet over a cracked roof sheet for example or to completely replace it. DR-Refurb sheeting can be used on any building that has a profiled asbestos cement or fibre cement roof.

Although DR-Refurb sheeting was originally developed for asbestos cement and fibre cement roofs, subject to enquiry, it can also be used to match old, profiled metal sheeting that is no longer available in a colour to suit.

Filon Over-Roofing

The Filon Over-Roofing system provides a refurbishment solution for old asbestos cement or fibre cement roofs when Building Regulations allow.

The Filon Over-Roof system is comprised of lightweight but tough, opaque grey profiled GRP sheeting that matches the existing roof profile, translucent rooflights when required, and 25mm deep or 60mm deep profiled Profix spacers that also match the existing roof sheet profile. The Profix spacers are designed to fit over the main hook bolt roof fasteners that are normally the type used and which are located at the back edge of the purlins, without removing them. The Profix spacer design allows new self-drill and tap roofing screws to be used into the central part of the purlin.

Accessories include a two-piece adjustable GRP ridge flashing for use on older roofs that have a close fitting, two-piece ridge and a 900mm girth GRP ridge flashing that can be used over a 900mm girth close fitting cranked crown ridge. Larger GRP ridge flashings and other flashings are available from Filon recommended suppliers.

The Filon Over-Roof system may be used on any roof that is clad with profiled asbestos cement or fibre cement roof sheeting.

Although originally designed for use on old asbestos cement or fibre cement roofs, the Filon Over-Roof system may be adapted for use on profiled metal roofs when alternative systems would impose too much load on the roof structure for example.

Filon Fixsafe

The Fixsafe system allows profiled rooflights or roof sheets to be replaced from within the building which eliminates the need to access a fragile roof. This also means that the need for costly roof access safety equipment is also eliminated.

The patented Fixsafe fastener system has been developed to accommodate most purlin and profiled sheet types and the tough and durable Fixsafe sheets are flexible enough to be manipulated into place without breaking.

The Filon Fixsafe system can be used to replace profiled rooflights or sheets for any roof where access on to it is not allowed, not preferred, or site safety is the prime concern.
