AJW Distribution Ltd is an independently owned company supplying roofing, cladding, and general building materials to contractors, builders, merchants, and the general public. We are now looking for a Sales Assistant to join our growing business and become a key part of our day-to-day operations at our Witham depot.

The Role

As a Sales Assistant, you will serve customers by selling products and services while ensuring every customer journey reflects our service-first ethos. You will communicate professionally and enthusiastically with customers, supporting both trade counter and telephone sales, and contributing to the smooth daily running of the branch.

No two days are the same at AJW — variety is part of the job.

What you’ll be doing
• Generating sales by proactively contacting existing and new customers by phone and email.
• Serving customers at the trade counter, delivering fast, friendly, and effective service.
• Producing, sending, and chasing quotations through to completion.
• Promoting additional sales through upselling and product knowledge.
• Processing customer orders accurately and efficiently on the system.
• Responding promptly to customer enquiries and resolving issues professionally.
• Ordering non-stock items and coordinating deliveries to meet customer requirements.
• Handling incoming telephone calls and routing messages correctly.
• Supporting the branch team with administration, stock checks, and reporting.
• Assisting yard staff when required with picking, packing, and loading materials, following all PPE and safety procedures.

• Ability to work well in a fast-paced, team-focused environment.
• Good attention to detail and organisational skills
• Confident using computer systems, email, and telephone.
• A positive attitude and willingness to get involved across the branch.
Previous experience in sales, customer service, or a builders’ merchant environment (preferred but not essential)
