AJW Distribution are proud to support Farleigh Hospice during 2024, looking to raise over £15,000.
As many of you will be aware, AJW lost one of our own last July and it hit us all deeply. Rainer Hoefft, known to his friends and colleagues as Ray, worked for our Witham depot for over five years and was a well-loved team member and will be extremely missed. He was one of our drivers and always received excellent customer feedback. Ray always went above and beyond in his role.
We would like to share a few funny stories of Ray from his years at AJW;
The Essex team used to call Ray our little Ompalumpa for obvious reasons. We would rib him about his shorts and ask him if he bought them in the kid’s section at Primark or if he bought his shoes at Clark’s Kids. The team would tell him to be careful when making a drop in the rain as we didn’t want him to step into a puddle and drown.
It is because of Ray that AJW arranged a 100-mile cycle ride for the nominated charity of the year. This will carry on every year, thanks to Ray!
When a member of staff was poorly, he let him use his spare bike so that he could do some exercise. This team member does the 100 miles bike ride every year now! He would not be part of the cycling team without his generosity in loaning him the bike.
Ray also participated in Alan’s Challenge assault course with his grandson in 2018. He was part of the ‘Medical Help Required’ team and took part with Don, Shaun and Gary. They didn’t finish first but weren’t last and made it around the course in one piece.
It is safe to say Ray was truly valued here at AJW and he is deeply missed by us all, that is why we are raising money for Ray’s chosen Charity of the Year, Farleigh Hospice.
