As a great lover of the Horse Races our MD Alan Woods likes to share this love with our customers once a year with an evening at Huntington Races and there is no better event than ‘Ladies Day’

We booked two rooms for the occasion which had the perfect view off the finishing line. Our guests were welcomed with glasses of champagne and their race day’s booklet. We were lucky that the sun was shining which meant we could enjoy the races on our own private balcony.

Due to the generosity of our MD all of the ladies received a ‘Place Pot’ ticket from a lucky dip. For all of those readers who do not know what a ‘Place Pot’ is, it’s where you pick a horse in every race and they have to come in the first three places of each race. As you can imagine there is a very slim chance of winning this. I shall update you later with how the ladies did and if we had any winners later on in the post.

Before the races began we all enjoyed a lovely three course sit down meal, with everyone enjoying their food and drinks whist picking out who they were going to place their bets on. Whilst the meal was being served I managed to rally a few of our customers to enter the best dressed competition. I even managed to get Mr & Mrs Barry to enter ‘The Best Dressed Couple Competition’. Unfortunately none of those of entered won but it was certainly fun entering.

Once the food had finished the races kicked off to a great start with the MD’s wife Julie & Andrew from Stanes Rand our Accountants winning on the first race. As the evening went on we had small wins with everyone placing bets at the tote which will located outside of the room, which was a perfect location for us.

The biggest win of the evening came from myself which was such a surprise as it was my ‘Place pot’ which won me £265.20. Although I have been to many race days I have never bought a place pot before. As the evening went on I kept ticking off my winners on my betting slip and couldn’t quite believe I was still in with a chance of winning. As the final race approached I knew that there was no way I was going to win however I watched the final race and my horse won, however I just couldn’t believe it until the tote had confirmed my ‘WIN’. And what a WIN it was for me anyway. I will certainly be placing ‘Place Pot Bets’ in the future.

So after a lovely meal, good wine and some great wins the evening came to an end. Everyone had a fabulous evening and are looking forward to next year’s racing event already.
