AJW Smash their £10K target due to the generosity of others!

On Friday 23rd September we held our 3rd annual charity golf day at Wyboston Lakes and what a day it was. With the weather looking like it was going to rain, we were a little concerned; however the sun decided to make an appearance and the rain stayed away. This made for a fabulous day of golf, games and our charity annual raffle; leading onto an evening of raising money for our charity of the year.

The day kicked off at 9am with our 19 teams arriving with the joy of a day on the golf course. The generosity of those playing was amazing with each player donating £20.00 to enter the games through-out the day, as well as buying a number of raffle tickets. After registering and receiving their AJW goody bag, which had a number of items including our AJW golf balls and a CUPA cap which came in handy for a number of the players out on the course, plus the essentials, such as golf tees, pencils, water and a chocolate bar. The golf kicked off at 10am with a shotgun start and the sound of a real shotgun to wake the teams up ready for the competition to begin.

We certainly had some very competitive teams playing this year, aiming to be the winners of the day. The AJW team zoomed around the golf course on golf buggies, sponsored by DMD, giving out drinks for a small donation; which always helps the teams keep up the competitive vibe and also helps those not doing so well, to commiserate. The buggies were also a great way for us to deliver lunches to the golfers to keep their energy up during the day.

This year we were extremely pleased to have our very first female only team join the day. The team consisted of Sophie Wood from AJW, Hannah Wall from CUPA, Emma Butterworth from Flex-R and Charlie Patrick from Resitrix. The ladies were not confident in making it round the whole course but they all did amazing and managed to play the full 18 holes! They have all said they will back next year, with a view to win, so our men’s teams should watch out!

As the golf came to an end, the players were able to take part in our putting competition where there were a number of prizes up for grabs if they could put the ball in from a certain distance. Well done to everyone who won. The raffle was drawn at 3.30pm by the brilliant Jezo with the help of a Great Ormond Street ambassador, Clive. Congratulations to those who won in the raffle, we received a huge amount of prizes from customers and suppliers so thank you very much to those of you that donated. Your generosity helped us have an array of raffle prizes for the winners to choose from.

The evening began at 5.45pm with a wonderful 3 course meal, which was cooked to perfection. This was followed by Jezo kicking off the evening activities with a game of Heads and Tails, a classic game but a fun one, with the winner receiving £150!

This year the AJW staff voted for Great Ormond Street Hospital to be our charity of the year and so we invited Clive a charity ambassador to come and speak to us about the amazing work GOSH do for sick children. Clive reduced the whole room to silence and many to tears with his story about his daughter and other children who have been looked after at GOSH. His talk enabled Jezo to pull on the heart strings of everyone at the event and we raised an amazing amount of money from the wonderful auction gifts we had received from local businesses and suppliers.

Due to our main event sponsors, Kingspan, our suppliers sponsoring a hole each and the generosity of everyone attending the golf day as well as those of you that bought raffle tickets in any of our 6 depots, we are absolutely thrilled to announce we have raised a total of £10,445.84 from our annual charity golf day!

AJW is extremely proud to be able to support our charity of the year in raising such needed funds. It is all down to everyone who supports the day and this would not be possible without your generosity so thank you very much!  It really does make a huge difference to the charities we support each year.

We have so many people to thank for supporting our golf day.

Thank you to Kingspan for being our main sponsor and to DMD for sponsoring our golf buggies.

Thank you to all of the our amazing suppliers shown below, for sponsoring one of the holes.

Thank you to everyone below for the donation of prizes for the raffle and auction.
