AJW Cyclists smash their 100 mile challenge!

AJW’s charity bike ride took place on Wednesday 28th September, starting from the Chatteris depot. Dave Weare, Donald Goldsworthy-Ellson, Kevin Patrick and Rainer Hoefft all set off at 7am sharp to take on over 100 miles on just a pedal bike! In the run up to the day, all 4 members of the AJW cycling team got ready for the main event by cycling up to 30 miles at a time to build up stamina.

The route had been arranged and set out well in advance of the day, starting at Chatteris, heading down to Somersham and back round to Warboys, then continuing up through to March where it was time for a quick pit stop to refuel and reenergise.

It wasn’t long before the AJW team were back on the road where we wouldn’t see them again until they reached the halfway point at Swaffham for a lunch break. The guys reached their destination by half 12 and were ready to fill up on Swaffham’s White Hart sandwiches and coffee!

While eagerly waiting for their food, they had a generous donation from two lads named Gugy and Nathan, we were so appreciative and thankful for their kindness and support.

Help us reach £12,000 K!

At around 1.30pm the guys took off for the last leg of the journey, with just 35 miles left to go, and only needing to stop twice for a pit stop, they did absolutely amazing! Some parts of the route were seemingly quite scary, with many cars and lorries overtaking the cyclists on fast roads, so it was a relief when they got back onto the smaller through roads all the way back to the Chatteris depot where they had started just 9 hours and 25 minutes earlier that morning.

After 105 miles ridden, the team smashed it out of the park with a total riding time of 7 hours and 30 minutes at an average speed of 14 miles an hour!

I think it is safe to say that we at AJW are incredibly proud of our 4 cyclists for taking on such a challenge and coming through for our Charity of the Year 2022! Because of their passion and hard work we have so far been able to raise an amazing £1,230 – bringing our current total amount raised to a mind blowing £12,370!

We cannot thank everyone enough for your kindness and generosity in helping us to support Great Ormond Street Hospital.

There’s still time to donate, so if you would like to contribute to this amazing charity and the work they do for sick children and their families then please visit our donation page
