Another successful charity golf day!
On Friday 29th September we ran our annual charity AJW golf day at the lovely venue Wyboston Lakes and what a huge success it was.
We seem to be very lucky with the dates we pick as the sun always seems to shine for us and with 25 teams this year it made it our biggest golf day to date.
The golf kicked off at 10 am after a bacon butty, and welcome to the golf day by our new MD, Tom Woods, with Adrian Cambridge introducing the new ‘yellow ball’ game to the golfers.
The day ran smoothly with everyone enjoying being out on the course. The golfers are looked after well, with lunch being bought for them, plus everyone can buy drinks from our ‘D.M.D’ sponsored drinks buggies, with all proceeds from these sales going to charity.
The golf finished around 4 p.m. with our charity raffle drawn by the entertaining Jezo. We were also joined by Steve from our Charity of the Year EAAA. We received so many generous donations from our suppliers and local businesses.

The evening dinner started at 6 p.m. with a three-course meal served by the Wyboston Lakes team. This is a time for everyone to relax and enjoy the food and drinks. It’s also a good time for people to view our list of auction prizes and decide which item they are going to bid on.
This year we had such a long list of auction items, that we decided to showcase some during registration so we had already received a number of bids for most of these items, it is truly amazing how generous people are.
Whilst everyone is enjoying their dessert and coffee we take this time to present the winners of the games which we ran throughout the day. This year we received some amazing prizes from our suppliers but also from local businesses so thank you to everyone involved.
The Best Golfer Omar Iahfa was presented with a golf bag which was donated by ‘Enfield Electrical’.
The 2nd best golfer Sean Audley and the 3rd best golfer Alex Wright were presented with prizes donated by Saffron Walden Golf Club.
The best female golfer was won by Sophie Wood with the prize being sponsored by Cedral.
Cedral our main sponsors, also sponsored the prizes for the best team which were presented to the team from Filon. The team Adam Carey, John Charles and Matt Camp, were extremely excited about being crowned the winning team.
We had five ‘nearest the pins’ presented with one being presented to our MD Tom Woods, but not only did he win on hole 5 he also won Worst Golfer of the day and so ended up with our wooden spoon trophy!
We would also like to thank ‘Royston Golf Club’ for donating a prize for our longest driver winner.
After a quick break, we moved on to the evening entertainment. Jezo kicked this off with a game of heads and tails. Everyone put at least £5 into the donation envelope, and the winner was presented with £300 this year! Congratulations to Tom Nelly from Ashe Construction for winning!
This led to a presentation from Steve from East Anglian Air Ambulance; he spoke about how the money we raised would support the charity. Showcasing what the charity does, what they use the money for, and how they can support us with their local free courses. It’s incredible to learn that in 2022/2023 they took a total of 2,795 missions. 26% of these are cardiac arrests, and 22% are road traffic collisions. Over the next year, EAAA aims to train 20,000 people in how to perform CPR and to use a defibrillator.
EAAA are 100% run by charity donations and so relies on public donations and community fundraising. In 2022/2023, they have to raise at least £3,750 for a mission to develop and deliver a sustainable 24/7 service. To see what incredible work the EAAA do click here.
Up next Jezo took control of the stage and started the auction. We were donated a huge amount of prizes this year and are so incredibly thankful for all the donations received. The prizes ranged from four balls at local golf courses to a weekend away, boxes of wine, a Cambridge United football shirt, a garden bench, plus lots more.
We are so proud to announce that we raised a total of £6,928 from the generosity of those on the evening alone! We also raised £4,084 from sponsors for the day!
Thank you to every single person who bought raffle tickets and auction items; to those who attended and bought drinks during the day and paid the registration fee, and finally to those businesses who donated gifts and sponsored the event.
We are extremely grateful for your kind and generous donations. For anyone who would like to donate and help us reach our target then click here.
