We also spoke to Sophie as the only lady who volunteered to take on the challenge from AJW, to get her experience of the day and how she felt once she finished that last peak! See what she had to say about the challenge below…
“Four months ago, someone at work asked if I would take part in the 3 peaks challenge to raise money for our chosen charity for the year…East Anglia Air Ambulance…After a small bit of bullying I finally agreed. Peer pressure is a wonderful thing.
On 9th September 2023, I not only did it but completed the Yorkshire 3 peaks challenge. It was one of the most physical and mental challenges I think I have ever done.
Three Peaks Yorkshire, you tested me in ways I didn’t know possible.
There was a point I was about to turn around & then this wonderful bunch of ladies told me to join their group. This was the best decision I made! I have never felt more humbled to join a wonderful group of ladies who were raising money for their friend who is no longer with them. I heard so many stories about her & know she’d be super proud of all you ladies & probably wetting herself watching you all.
Without these ladies, 100%, I wouldn’t have finished, but jeez am I proud of myself, no training and still somehow managed, 24 miles, 3 Peaks & on the hottest day of the year!
The views were to die for & so worth the pain. The feeling of crossing that finishing line was amazing & the wine even better, I mean, what clever person positioned a pub at the end?
To the people who donated, thank you – another reason I knew I couldn’t turn back.
To the people who said I wouldn’t or couldn’t do it… you just made me more focused.
To the new lifelong friends I have made, thank you. Thank you for letting me join you & for getting me to the end. Thank you for sharing your stories & making me laugh all the way through even if we wanted to cry at points.
And finally to myself, nothing is impossible & be proud of an achievement you never thought was possible.”
