Cuckfield
Tile Used: Sahtas Brookhurst Handmade Clay Plain Tile in ‘Multi’ blend.
This stunning home, open plan on the ground floor, is constructed from a green oak frame supporting a traditional cut rafter roof.
The owners have lived around the world but most recently in France and wanted to create a French cottage look to their house.
Featuring the Brookhurst tile in ‘Multi blend’, the roof is in keeping with the conservation area around the property, despite it being a new build. The ‘Multi blend’ goes beautifully with the pale oak used for the exterior of the property’s ground floor: as the oak will eventually weather down to a silvery hue, the tile’s subtle shades of browns and reds will continue to complement it throughout the years.
The challenge
The eaves of this property are almost at eye level, making the roof open to close scrutiny and the detail and finish on the roof had therefore to be of an exceptionally high standard.
The owner, Chris Bateman commented:
When I first saw the Sahtas tiles, they were on another house. My wife and I loved them straight away – the way they’re handmade, how they change colour with the temperature and the rain – we just loved it.
I thought the roof was amazing value for money – the Sahtas tile is a beautiful handmade tile, it’s just amazing and we were happy with the price. The work has been carried out to a very high standard.
