A team of cyclists from AJW Distribution and Seven Asset will take on a 24-hour challenge in aid of Broomfield Hospital’s Phoenix ward, part of Mid Essex Hospitals Charity.
The event is inspired by eight-year-old Harrison Hart whose dad Shaun works at AJW’s Witham depot. Harrison has a rare form of life-threatening epilepsy and regularly attends Phoenix ward for treatment. We would like to thank the Phoenix ward team for their amazing care by giving something back.
On Friday 19th July, a team of seven from AJW and Seven Asset will be cycling the 73.5 miles from our AJW depot in Chatteris to our depot in Witham, Essex. They will set off at 7.30am on Friday morning and are aiming to arrive in Witham by 2.30pm.
Once they touch down in Witham, the static bike challenge will begin with colleagues cycling non-stop through the night until 7.30am on Saturday morning.
The team includes Liz Custance from our central sales team, Dean Wicks our external sales executive, driver Rainer Hoefft, and the inspirational Don Goldsworthy-Ellson who is cycling after beating cancer last year.
AJW are extremely thankful to the team at Seven Asset who put themselves forward to be part of this great challenge.
Seven Asset’s Steve Cole said: “When Don approached me to tell me what was being planned, and knowing we have a few amateur cyclists at Seven, I had to pitch in and help when he told me about Harrison and what Broomfield Hospital have done to help him. Rob Simmons from our service planning team, Ernie Ross who is the personal fitness trainer to some of us at Seven, and myself put ourselves forward to help support the event and those taking part from AJW. We are looking forward to taking part and raising funds for this great cause.”
Charlotte Woods, AJW’s marketing director, said: “I am extremely proud of the way the team at AJW have got behind this challenge with a number of the team determined to complete this 24-hour challenge. Having met Harrison at a number of our staff summer parties he is such a lovely boy and we would like to make his stays in the Phoenix ward as happy as possible so are determined to raise as much as we can.”
Charlotte Jefcoate, fundraising coordinator for Mid Essex Hospitals Charity, added: “It’s fantastic that AJW have chosen Phoenix ward as their charity of the year. The staff on Phoenix ward do amazing work and the money AJW are raising will have a tremendous impact on the children who go there for treatment.”
So far, we have raised over £1,400 for the charity and are positive we can raise much more as the year goes on. Please dig deep and help us raise as much as we can for our chosen charity of the team and donate today. https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/chatteris-to-witham
